 Halifacts Oasis is committed to providing a respectful, informative space for discussion of local issues, public officials, community events, and matters affecting Halifax County. We welcome differing opinions, questions, and constructive criticism. We do not require our audience to agree with our hosts, guests, or one another.

Our goal is to encourage meaningful discussion—not personal attacks, harassment, or disruption.

The following are not permitted on our website, podcast platforms, livestreams, or associated social media pages:

• Personal attacks: Insults, name-calling, ridicule, or degrading remarks directed at any individual, including public officials, guests, hosts, and other commenters.
• Attacks on physical appearance: Comments mocking or criticizing a person's face, body, age, disability, clothing, or other personal characteristics.
• Harassment and intimidation: Threats, bullying, repeated targeting of individuals, or attempts to encourage others to harass someone.
• Off-topic or irrelevant comments: Comments that do not relate to the subject being discussed, including attempts to redirect a conversation toward unrelated grievances, personal disputes, or political arguments.
• Disruptive behavior: Repetitive posting, trolling, deliberate provocation, or comments intended primarily to derail productive discussion.
• Private information: Posting another person's private contact information, address, or other sensitive personal details without authorization.
• Spam and inappropriate content: Unsolicited advertising, malicious links, sexually explicit material, or other content unsuitable for a community discussion forum.

We encourage respectful disagreement, criticism of public decisions, questions about policy, and evidence-based discussion. It is acceptable to challenge a person's statements, votes, actions, or public positions. It is not acceptable to attack their appearance, demean their personal worth, or use unrelated insults to discredit them.

For example, “I disagree with the supervisor's position on solar development because…” is welcome. Mocking the supervisor's physical appearance or posting unrelated personal insults is not.

Halifacts Oasis reserves the right to hide, delete, or decline to publish comments that violate this policy. Repeated or serious violations may result in temporary or permanent restrictions from commenting or participating.

We are not obligated to provide a warning before removing inappropriate content. Moderation decisions will be based on the content and conduct involved, not on whether someone agrees or disagrees with our views.

We may preserve records of threatening, harassing, or otherwise concerning communications when appropriate.

We will strive to apply these standards consistently to all participants, regardless of political affiliation, position on solar development, support for particular public officials, or any other viewpoint.

Freedom of expression includes the right to disagree and criticize. It does not require Halifacts Oasis to provide a platform for personal abuse, harassment, or irrelevant disruption.

Disagree with the issue. Challenge the facts. Question the decisions. Respect the person.
